Description
The book “Watercolour in Portuguese Art” aims to trace the course of the pictorial process of watercolour with a chronological scope that goes from the 16th century to the middle of the 20th century. This topic is studied in two complementary ways: the period called “watercolour background” (between the 16th and late 18th century) and the period of “artistic watercolour” (since the beginning of the 19th century). It is on this line that the reader is asked to learn about different circumstances, going through different areas. The focus of the topic is based on research involving historical and artistic contexts. A study is carried out on the life and work of some of the artists – who used this technique – born in the 19th century and whose works contributed to the prestige achieved by watercolour: Ricardo Hogan, D. Carlos de Bragança, Alfredo Roque Gameiro, Alfredo Januário de Morais, João Alves de Sá, Alberto de Sousa, Raquel Roque Gameiro, Helena Roque Game.
