Simeão de Saxe-Coburgo-Gota

25.00

The autobiography, edited by the editors of ‘The Book Hut’, portrays the life of Simeão de Saxe-Coburgo-Gota, known as the Rei Simeão II of Bulgaria, since he was a child to the present day.
A story with tragic episodes, which begins shortly after the death of his father, in mysterious circumstances. Then, with only six years (born 1937), the young Simeon becomes king of the Bulgarians.
Years later, when part of the family was killed by the communists, he was forced into exile. In September 1946, he left Sofia and headed for Istanbul, then passed through Egypt, where he met his maternal grandparents, kings of Italy, also in exile there, and, finally, he went to Spain, where the Bulgarian royal family was established to rebuild itself.
After the fall of the Berlin wall, Simeão II, who had never lost hope, returned to his country, fifty years after being forced to abandon it. The acclaimed return to Sofia in May 1996 was followed by his political participation, culminating in the victory of the movement he led in the 2001 legislative elections.
Simeão II is a unique case in history: deposed monarch, he managed to return to power, no longer as king in a monarchy, but as head of a republican democratic government.
Simeão II of Bulgaria, together with Queen Elizabeth II, Franco, the Sha of Persia, Hassan II, Juan Carlos and many others survived as time passed, crossed the twentieth century and became a unique part of the history of the world.
His memories, which are also those of Europe and his torments, are now shared, in the form of autobiography, by this monarch and former prime minister who was a privileged spectator of the history of more than the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.
