João Charters de Almeida was born in 1935, in Lisbon. He took a course in Superior Sculpture at the Higher School of Fine Arts of Porto (ESBAP: Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto), where he took classes with Salvador Barata Feyo as a professor.
Having essentially explored the clay, he felt the need to explore metal; later it was the turn of the stone and finally of the concrete.
His works are in museums, foundations and private collections in Portugal and other countries in Europe, the United States, Brazil, Canada and Japan.
He also has large-scale works in public spaces in Portugal, Belgium, the United States, Canada and China.
